| Description | BACKGROUND: The NSF-REU Leadership Group announces the availability of Travel Awards for LS-AMP students who will attend and present their research at the Spring National American Chemical Society meeting in Anaheim, California, March 27-31, 2011. Each award will be $600, and, initially, no more than two awards will be made to students from a single LS-AMP funded institution. The awards will be made in the order in which Professor David Haines receives the eligible applications, until the money runs out, so students are encouraged to apply immediately after submitting their abstracts to the ACS (through the ACS website at http:/abstracts.acs.org). Do not wait for the abstracts to be accepted. Students may submit their abstracts to the Division of Chemical Education Undergraduate Research Poster sessions, or to any other session of the meeting, but the travel award will be contingent on the acceptance of the abstract for presentation at the ACS meeting. ABSTRACT DEADLINES: The submission deadlines have not yet been announced, but last year the deadline for the Undergraduate Poster sessions was October 19. ELIGIBILITY: All current undergraduate students from LS-AMP funded institutions who have done chemically related laboratory research, which they will present at the spring 2011 ACS meeting, are eligible to apply. Students who were funded by an undergraduate AMP program during the summer of 2010, but who will have graduated at the time of the meeting, are also eligible. Awardees MUST be listed as PRESENTERS of the research in the ACS abstract in order to be eligible for this award and no more than one presenter per abstract can receive this award. Preference will be given to students who have not received a NSF-REU Leadership Group travel award in the past. You MUST attend the REU/LS-AMP Travel Awards Reception on Sunday March 27, 2011 at 5:00 pm and an Awards Lecture on Tuesday March 29 at noon to receive the travel support. The checks will be presented by Prof. David Haines during the Travel Award Lecture Meeting on Tuesday March 29 during the Anaheim ACS meeting. Awardees will be notified of the details of these meetings before the ACS meeting. The Award checks will be given upon the signing of an acknowledgment form at the Travel Awards Lecture.
